The walk
Three kilometres along the False Bay coast, from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay harbour. At an easy pace it takes about an hour.
The route
- Surfers' Corner, Muizenberg. We start by the Muizenberg Pavilion, at the end of the long sandy beach.
- Along the coast to St James. The route heads south along the False Bay shore, past St James.
- On to Kalk Bay. The walk ends on Kalk Bay's Main Road, a few minutes from the harbour.
When the sea is rough the coastal path is not safe. We walk the Main Road pavement instead.

The harbour
Kalk Bay is a small harbour town with a fishing community whose boats still go out every day. The harbour is known for its seals, and the restaurants around it serve the day's catch. The cliffs above the village are full of caves, and the Dalebrook tidal pool is close by for anyone who wants a swim before lunch.
Getting there by train
The route follows Cape Town's Southern Line railway. Muizenberg station is about five hundred metres from the start, and there are stations at St James and Kalk Bay along the way.
No trains on Sundays. Southern Line trains do not normally run on Sundays or public holidays, so a Sunday walker travels by road. On other days, check the current timetable before you set out.
